It may seem like a relic from the days when we used to write secret notes about our first loves under the covers, but did you know that journaling can still be your best tool today? It's not just about memories on paper - a diary can be a therapeutic tool, a path to self-discovery, and a space for your dreams and plans. And most importantly, it's something for you and you alone. With the New Year coming up, maybe this is the best time for you to start a new tradition!

1. Writing as a valve of emotion

We all have days when everything annoys us - the boss who always wants something, the kids who have thrown Legos all over the apartment, or the feeling that everything is falling apart. A journal is the perfect place to complain without being interrupted. Just pick up a pen, pour out your frustrations on paper, and suddenly you're relieved. The paper can take it all, and it doesn't judge.

2. Understand yourself better

How often do you ask yourself questions like: Why does this keep happening to me? or What do I want out of life? Journaling can help you uncover patterns in your behavior or thinking. When you return to your journaling, you may notice that certain situations or emotions repeat themselves - and thus discover what is blocking you or moving you forward.

3. Journaling as a space for gratitude

No, you don't have to immediately write a list of ten things you're grateful for each day, but a small note like, " It was nice to be complimented by a colleague today." or "That sunset was amazing." can help you tune into positive thoughts. And believe me, the more gratitude you write down, the more good things you'll start to notice around you.

4. Creativity to the max

A journal isn't just about what happened - it can be a place for your ideas, dreams, poems, drawings, or even crazy plans. Do you have a dream to write a book? Start writing down scenes or dialogue. Want to paint? Draw your designs. There are no limits to your imagination. Don't forget photos, clippings, or little things like the pressed flower you received. You might be surprised at the commemorative artwork you end up creating.

5. Time just for you

In a hectic world where we always have to be available, journaling is the perfect way to stop for a moment and focus on yourself. It can be your little daily ritual - a quiet moment with a cup of tea and an open notebook.

6. How to get started?

You don't have to be Hemingway to keep a journal. Just:

  • Choose a form: a paper notebook, an app on your phone, or just plain Word.
  • Find a moment: five minutes in the evening or morning.
  • Don't be afraid to start: It doesn't matter if you write haphazardly or out of order. A journal is just for you.

7. Bonus: Recording your accomplishments

One day, when you're going through old notes, you'll realize how much you've accomplished. What once seemed like an insurmountable problem, you've mastered with your left foot. Your diary will remind you of how strong and capable you are.

So, are you gonna give the diary a chance? You may find it's just the key you've been missing to greater peace, joy and balance. And who knows, maybe one day someone will find your journal and think, " Wow, this woman had a great life!" 😊

For me, writing is like opening a gateway to a new world - you never know what will be there, but it's always worth it!...
