Scary stories from the movie? No. Life!
Adventurous people who love adrenaline seek it out in different ways. They like fear, they like to be scared. Whether they personally try different challenges or even just enjoy horror movies. There is no heroism in being hidden behind a screen.
What about ghost stories in real life?
My first memory of the supernatural is from around my teenage years. Like every year, I slept over at my cousin's house and we classically discussed absolutely everything until the wee hours of the morning. Time passed quickly, we didn't notice it. As we were engrossed in our conversation, we were suddenly startled by a big bang. We wondered for a while what could have caused it and realized it was just a layer of wet snow falling from the roof onto the balcony below the window.
We kept talking, and we also woke up our deceased relative. Not in a bad way, just talking about her. Her room was left next to the one we were staying in, undisturbed, and that was certainly one of the mistakes. We kept talking, and then suddenly there was another huge bang. It was as if someone in the kitchen had taken a drawer full of cutlery and slammed it on the floor. We thought that was strange. I'd say we dreamt it but since we were both awake and heard it, we dismissed the possibility with disappointment. My heart was pounding in my throat.
As the house was old and some parts of the wooden floor were rickety, you could already tell who was coming by the sound and frequency of their footsteps. Yes, it was the tiny shuffling footsteps we knew as children. And because I am not and never have been brave, it made me want to go to the toilet. We glanced toward the door, which was partially glazed with fogged glass, and there loomed a black silhouette. The silhouette of a person who seemed to be hiding next to the door, waiting. I ordered my cousin to get into bed with me. I don't remember how we fell asleep but when we asked the other family members the next day if they had heard anything, they said no.
Stories from hospitals that have explanations such as drafts, dust reflecting on camera, or hallucinations are all to the point but there are situations that cannot be explained. Footsteps in the corridor where no one is really there. The announcement of an old patient like "My mommy is behind you", and you just run away with blinders on. But if it's showing physiological functions and readings even when they're disconnected?
Sometimes the fear is more accessible than we think and we just need to be open to things. Sometimes we're just blind because we want to be.
What type are you? Is it fun and adrenaline or are you scared to hide under the covers? Do you believe that souls are all around us?
